OREGON
Offshore wind resources exceed on-land wind energy due to less sheer and greater capacity. In much of the US, a steep continental shelf relatively close to shore inhibits installation of fixed wind turbines in water depths greater than 40m.
Principle Power is proposing the installation of a floating deep-water offshore wind facility with a nameplate capacity of 150 MW that enables access to superior wind resources located further offshore. The proposed project will be implemented in phases. Phase I is proposed to install two floating offshore turbine structures with a combined nameplate capacity of 10 MW to demonstrate the viability, reliability and economics of Principle Power’s WindFloat. Follow-on Phases will expand the project to its full nameplate capacity of 150 MW. The proposed project has potential to provide significant contributions to the Tillamook PUD energy portfolio as a renewable energy resource and towards economic development throughout Tillamook County.
